25 Years of Coming Home

A year-long celebration for every IIT Bombay alumnus, wherever you are, whatever decade you belong to. This is your homecoming.

Established in 1958 on the shores of Powai Lake, IIT Bombay has grown into one of Asia’s premier institutions of science, technology, and innovation.
Our alumni have gone on to lead global corporations, build lasting companies, drive scientific discovery, shape public policy, and create art that endures

But the thread that connects all of us, from the batch of 1962 to the batch of 2024 is the same: a shared beginning shaped by an exam that demanded everything, and a campus that gave back more.Today, more than 75,000 alumni span every continent and nearly every field. We are the living legacy of an institution that pioneered world-class excellence in a newly independent India.

About IITBAA

The IIT Bombay Alumni Association (IITBAA) was founded in 2001 with a simple conviction: that the relationships formed at Powai should not end at graduation. Twenty-five years on, that conviction has become a community. What began as a small network of alumni who wanted to stay connected has grown into a globally active association, with chapters spanning India, North America, Southeast Asia, Europe, and beyond. IITBAA connects alumni across generations, supports the institute in its mission, and increasingly, delivers real value back to the very people who built it.

Celebrating 25 Years of IITBAA

This year, we mark a milestone, and begin a new chapter.

Twenty-five years ago, a group of alumni decided that the bonds formed at IIT Bombay were worth tending. They built IITBAA from the ground up: chapters, events, mentorship networks, and a shared identity that has only grown stronger with time. Today, that founding conviction has become a 75,000-strong global community.

The Silver Jubilee is our moment to honour what was built and to imagine what comes next.

What the Silver Jubilee Stands For

More than a milestone, the Silver Jubilee is a bridge.

The theme of this year’s celebrations is focused on us, the alumni. The association today runs flagship events, global masterclasses with some of the sharpest minds in the world, mentorship initiatives that connect senior alumni with those just starting out, and services that make being part of the IITB community tangible and rewarding. This is Alumni 2.0: purposeful, connected, and built entirely around us. The Silver Jubilee events span thematic pillars that matter most right now: Artificial Intelligence, Sustainability, Entrepreneurship, and more. Beginning in August, they will bring together the architects of India’s post-independence story, the trailblazers who carried that story to the world stage, and the disrupters who are rewriting it as we speak. Every generation of IITB alumni has a seat at this table. Every decade has a story worth telling. This year, we are making sure all of them are heard. The year ends not with a closing ceremony, but with a launch: a next-generation IITBAA, built on a quarter-century of trust with new digital services, new platforms for connection, and new ways for us to access the full power of the network we belong to.
